4iBIO was founded by Dr. Marvin Schwartz, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and innovator.

Dr. Schwartz has dedicated his career to education and improving patient’s lives. He received his B.Sc. from the University of Toronto specializing in physiology. He completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery also at the University of Toronto. His post-graduate training consisted of an internship at the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children, specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesia at the University of Toronto and a Master’s Degree in oro-facial nerve physiology and microsurgical nerve repair.

Dr. Schwartz is currently Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery at the Rouge Valley Health Complex. He also holds a post-graduate teaching appointment at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a past President of the Great Lakes Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and past President of the Medical Staff Association of Scarborough Grace Hospital.

Dr. Schwartz has extensive medical research experience. His interests in Diseases of Joints, in particular Osteoarthritis and the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), have led his main research interests. He is also co-founder of The Crown Institute where his interests focus on Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD), Whiplash Associated Disorders (WAD) and Headache research and treatment. He has extensive experience in the therapeutic use of Botulinum toxin (e.g. Botox) in these areas.

Dr. Schwartz has always viewed the innovative resolution of clinical challenges as a foundation for the improvement of patients' lives. As such, his emphasis has been on the identification of significant medical challenges and the technologies that may be applied to alleviate them. The power of integrating ideas from different scientific disciplines such as engineering and medicine to solve common and debilitating problems is a driving force for 4iBIO.

JOZSEF R. SOS, MBA
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Sos has over 15 years of executive management experience with a primary focus in the manufacturing sector. He has been a consultant and advisor to companies in the services sector for well over a decade focusing on managerial and organizational initiatives and needs. Mr. Sos holds a number of industry relevant certifications ranging from ISO 9000 Auditor to Health & Safety Tier Two Certification. Mr Sos’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start CADIS, a computer sales and services company that provided replacement services to the insurance industry. Mr. Sos sits on various not-for-profit boards of directors including The Sigma Chi Canadian Foundation as well as the Granite Club. Mr. Sos earned his MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

GARY MORPHY, P.Eng.
Chief Technology Officer

Mr. Morphy is a professional engineer and is currently President of Synthesis Engineering Solutions (SES) since early 2006. SES provides research and development engineering services: advice, training, experimentation, new device process/design and development, product, tool and mechanical design, component and process analysis, simulation, intellectual property and project management. SES also helps companies of any size get government assistance to advance their R&D efforts. Gary is a technical leader with 14 years of highly developed tube hydroforming experience. He is familiar with material behavior, testing, analysis and experimental procedures. From 1992 to 2006 Mr. Morphy served as Project Engineer, Research and Development for Vari-form Inc., a QS 9000 and ISO 14001 certified Tier 1 and 2 automotive structural tube hydroformer. Gary was responsible for project management involving coordination of initial proposal and quote through prototype and production part and tool design. He managed R&D activities and information to support claims for tax credits. Gary worked closely with and directed CAD (CATIA) designers toward best part and tool design. Previously, Mr. Morphy was Product/Manufacturing Engineer with Long Manufacturing Ltd., an automotive heat exchanger manufacturer as well as Pavaco Plastics, a plastics extrusion, vacuum-forming and assembly company. Gary obtained his Bachelor of Applied Science, Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1985.
